I don't know if I had any one person who was a mentor to me, but I would say that I did have many positive influences among both the faculty and my classmates. At GCC, you are surrounded by some of the best young adults and faculty on the planet. Being surrounded by that kind of excellence just naturally has an affect on you, and you are built up just by striving alongside your classmates to live up to the expectations set by the College.
GCC challenged me for life after college by challenging me and testing my limits! Up to that point in my life I had never really had to struggle academically. The rigorous academics at Grove City tested me academically, which led to significant growth in me not only academically but as an individual. I was tested by fire, as it were, and came out stronger in the end. From a career perspective, the secondary education department put me in an excellent position to pursue teaching through its required observations and its student teaching program.
On the academic side, I appreciated how much my professors were concerned with my education. In a large university, it is hard to get face time with your professor. My professors were there to help out when I needed it and genuinely cared about me. From a student life perspective, I appreciated the Christian values and environment. I made excellent, lifelong Christian friends. That was something that I did not grow up with as a youth, so I took advantage of all the College had to offer in that regard. I felt that GCC's Christian environment helped me grow as a Christian because I was immersed in Christian life and Christian habits.
I am a high school math/engineering teacher at Fountain Fort Carson High School in Fountain, CO.
